The Fountain City Roller Derby gives new meaning to the phrase "Rock and Roll!" For the past 8 years, the league has been meeting up on the final Saturday of each month for plenty of Rock 'em, Sock 'em action. It's been a sport that has opened doors for people looking to get into something new and exciting.

The participants come from all walks of life. Lawyers, service men and women and even priest all strap on their knee and elbow pads, helmets and chin straps.

"I think it's about being around a group of people who all have the same goal and are here to become better derby skaters." said coed participant Rob Baldwin of Lawrence, Kansas.

Katrina Combs moved to the area from Los Angeles and says being a part of the Fountain City Roller Derby has helped her move to the Midwest a smoother transition.

"I was brand new to Kansas City and had no friends so when I was introduced to the sport, I loved it," said Combs.

Fountain City Roller Derby will have two more games this season, August 26 and September 30 at B&D Skate Center in Independence, Missouri. The league is always looking for new participants and will train skaters in the art of the derby.
