KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Patrick Mahomes continues to wax poetic about Cowtown, USA.

The reigning Super bowl MVP and newest part-owner of the Kansas City Royals offered more details Sunday into what led to his investment in the club this summer.

“I love baseball,” Mahomes told the media via Zoom. “I grew up in clubhouses and I love everything about it.”

“Whenever the Royals got bought by the Shermans, I wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

The Royals announced in July the Chiefs quarterback had purchased a stake in the team, making the 24-year-old the youngest owner in professional sports. Mahomes said the deal took a little more than one year to complete.

“They were able to let me join in with something that’s going to be long term and in Kansas City for a long time,” Mahomes said.

Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid joked the QB could watch the team from afar, but should stay off the diamond.

“He’s all in with the city,” Reid said. “And he loves baseball, so it’s a match.”

Mahomes’ father played 11 seasons in the majors in stints with the Mets, Twins and Red Sox, compiling a 5.47 career era.

Mahomes II was drafted in the 37th round in 2014 by the Detroit Tigers.
