The Royals have signed right-handed pitcher Jason Hammel to a two-year free agent contract.
Hammel, 34, comes from the Chicago Cubs where he went 15-10 and posted 144 strikeouts in 166.2 innings. He allowed one run or less in 13 of his 30 starts and allowed three runs or less in 23 of 30.

This is his 12th major league season. He was originally drafted in the 10th round of the 2002 draft by Tampa Bay.
He currently lives in Chicago with his wife, Elissa, and his two sons, Beckett and Colby.
