ST LOUIS — The Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis says it will close three elementary schools because of a drop in finances caused by the coronavirus.
The Archdiocese said Friday the schools were struggling financially before the pandemic and the Archdiocese's ability to help was hampered by a drop in contributions from Masses and other sources.
The impact of the coronavirus also was being felt in north Missouri, where 400 employees of a Smithfield meatpacking plant underwent voluntary testing for COVID-19 this week.
An advocacy group for workers said several employees tested positive but exact numbers have not been released.
