It's a child's dream come true - mountains of toys, board games, dolls and action figures, all within arm's reach a week before Christmas.
"I'm helping out a church with people who don't have a lot of stuff and I'm helping hand out food," said Abigail, an 8-year-old volunteer for St. Therese, "The Little Flower."
But she and friend William, 8, won't take a single toy home.
"I'm helping out the church, getting bags for people and making sure they still have a Christmas even though they can't afford it," William explained.
Instead, they're spending the day volunteering at St. Therese Little Flower to give it all away to more than 270 families in need.
"It's fun helping other people who can't have a Christmas and you get a Christmas. It's not fair. It's fair for them but not for other people," said William.
The Kansas City, Mo. Police Department joined up with the Catholic church to pack up and hand out bags overflowing with groceries and Christmas gifts. This comes after concerns just last week that the church wouldn't be able to meet the community's need.
"The police officers aren't just out here answering calls, writing tickets and stuff; we're out here helping the community and we are concerned about what goes on," said Christopher DeFreece, a KCPD officer with the community action network.
On Thursday, officers will load up their cars with gifts and make home deliveries for the folks who couldn't make it out to the church.
