Amy Buchanan is a retail newspaper reporter turned lifestyle blogger for Atta Girl Says. She recommends skipping the return lines and hightailing it to the clearance section when you head out to shops on Dec. 26.
The reason - you can save beaucoup bucks on items like Christmas decor and accents, party supplies, paper goods and the like.
"Don't just check in the holiday clearance section," said Buchanan. "Check the end caps in the store. A lot of times you'll find those items there. If they're not marked down, ask, because they may not have gotten around to doing those mark downs and so sometimes you can get those for half off or more as well."
Buchanan recommends not getting stuck in Christmas-only mode, as many goods marketed towards Christmas can actually be used year-round.
"You can really find some gift wrap that works all year round that you can use for birthdays as well as for Christmas," she explained. "I got this great basket one year at Target on clearance and I use it all year round to store things. Also, a lot of stores will have seasonal baking sheets and they're not really Christmas-y other than that they might be red."
The longer you wait, the deeper store will discount goods, so no worries if you can't make it out right on Dec. 26, advised Buchanan.
