How to find a new career path

For 18 years, Doug Simmons was employed by Sprint, but he didn't make the cut in the latest round of layoffs. Now he's using this layoff as an opportunity to create a new career plan.

To help him draft a plan, he reached out to employees at Express Employment Professionals in Overland Park.

If you are looking for a new job or recently have been laid off, here are some simple things Express Employment Professionals encourage us to do:

  • Use everyone around you to network.
  • Update your resume (one page for every 10 years).
  • Be proactive.
  • Create your own business or look at franchising if you don't find something you like.
  • Be realistic about your skills and salary requirements.
