Fatal accident shuts down I-35 Southbound

A fatal accident on Interstate 35 near West Pennway caused a shut down of the southbound lanes Thursday morning.

According to police, a dark green BMW was speeding on I-35 south when they approached the split for Southwest Trafficway and I-35. 

The driver struck the attenuator, which rotated the BMW across a lane on the interstate. A truck coming from the southbound lanes struck the driver's side of the vehicle and both vehicles struck a red Ford, according to the police report. 

The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The victim has been identified as Jason O'Neill, 31.

Friends and family of O'Neill have set up a GoFundme page to help support the two sons.

A vigil for O'Neill is scheduled for Friday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m.. The vigil will be held at Sunnyside Park. 

The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.
