Blue Springs man accused of killing grandfather over spilled sugar

Officials say a disagreement over spilled sugar led to a man killing his grandfather in Blue Springs on June 30.

Tyreik Baldwin, 21, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and stealing a motor vehicle. 

This comes after Harvey C. Baldwin, Tyreik Baldwin's grandfather, was found dead in his Blue Springs home Friday. 

According to a release from the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, Tyreik Baldwin, Harvey Baldwin and another family member had recently argued over issues, including Tyreik Baldwin spilling sugar in the house.

That family member told officials that Tyreik Baldwin snuck up behind him, struck him in the head with a hammer and stole his truck.

That family member called police after he became worried when he couldn't find Harvey Baldwin. Police found in him dead inside a chest freezer.

Officials tracked Tyreik Baldwin down after he used a family member's debit card at a Lee's Summit gas station. He attempted to flee police but was caught after officials used stop sticks to stop his vehicle

Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond.
