Police are investigating a homicide that happened in east Kansas City on Saturday evening.

According to the KCPD, a man was shot near 33rd Street and Indiana Avenue around 7 p.m.

Police found the victim across the street from Central Academy of Excellence located at 3221 Indiana Ave.

Authorities have identified the victim as Rodney Peoples, 25, of KCMO. Officers say the suspect is not in custody.

Police haven given very limited information about the homicide as they continue to investigate.

Captain Tye Grant did give his thoughts on investigating yet another brazen homicide for 2016.

"Daylight hours. It's pretty blatant, right out here in the open with a lot of people around," he said. "Obviously not a whole lot of concern for the sanctity of life."

Anyone with information is urged to call police or 816-474-TIPS.
