Late Monday, Jackson County prosecutors charged a Lee’s Summit man after his vehicle struck a pregnant woman standing outside a broken car Saturday morning. The baby later died.

Prosecutors say that Jonathan Marquardt, 36, was eastbound on Missouri Highway 350 around 3 a.m. Saturday when he struck the woman. The woman was standing outside of her car after it had broken down.

Marquardt’s car was located five minutes later near Raytown Road and Gregory, where officers observed Marquardt had bloodshot eyes and mumbled speech.

After failing field sobriety tests, officers arrested Marquardt and he submitted to a breath test, which came back to a B.A.C of .233.

Marquardt denied to officers that he had been involved in a crash.

The mother of the child was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital for an emergency C-section, when the baby died.

Prosecutors have requested a $200,000 bond.
