Shyreif and Teandre Carter have been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of Shawndray Key, who was fatally shot inside a vehicle parked in the area of 62nd and Agnes Avenue in April 2015, according to a news release from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Teandre Carter, 21, was sentenced in June to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in March to five felony counts: second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree attempted robbery and receiving stolen property.
On Tuesday, Shyreif Carter, 20, pleaded guilty in connection with Key’s homicide to second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
The two were charged in May 2015.
According to the news release, Key was found on April 9, 2015 in a vehicle parked in the area of 62nd and Agnes. Shyreif Carter arrived soon after at Research Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left hand.
The news release says a gun taken from the victim was found in a vehicle that Teandre Carter had used, and both Carters said they had wanted to rob the victim and take his gun.
Shyreif Carter said he fired a semi-automatic 357 into the car. The news release says shell casing matching such a gun were found in the vehicle.
