Man charged in deadly Kensington Park shooting

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A man was charged in the shooting deaths of two men at Kensington Park. 

Jose Varela, 26, is charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter, according to Wyandotte County District Attorney Spokesperson Jonathan Carter.

Wyandotte County Sheriff’s deputies and police were called to Kensington Park at 29th and State Avenue. 

When officials arrived, they found one man dead and another man who was injured. Emergency Medical Services took the injured man to a hospital where he died from gunshot wounds. 

The two men have been identified as Fabian Arriaga, 26, and Jose Morales, 22. 

After questioning others near the scene, detectives learned of a third man who was injured from gunshots, according to a news release from the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.
