A jury has found two men guilty of attempted capital murder in the shooting of a Wyandotte County deputy.

Dyron King, 25, and Cecil Meggerson, 36, were found guilty in Wyandotte County District Court on Friday afternoon for shooting Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Wood last March.

Wood, who was off-duty when he was shot on March 4, 2015, walked into the 7-Eleven near 44th Street and Shawnee Drive. He was shot multiple times and was initially listed in critical condition. He spent about two weeks in the hospital.

A third defendant, 19-year-old Charles Bowser, will be tried later.

Wood called the guilty verdicts a weight off his shoulders.

"I don't harbor any hate toward the individuals who did this to me, their families. I pray that they find the comfort and support that they need, just like I have throughout the community, and I pray that they find the grace that they need that God has shown me," said Wood.

Wood explained that he has not returned to work and he is still in therapy and counseling. He thanks fellow law enforcement officers and the people of Wyandotte County for their support.

Wood hopes to return to work as soon as possible.

King's and Meggerson's families had no comment on their convictions.
