A man was caught on camera setting a brand new SUV on fire in the Northland.

“I heard the car alarm going off,” said the owner, who declined to show his face or give his name out of fear of retaliation.

When he looked outside, he saw his brand new white Toyota Highlander burning.

"I feel like, I don't know what to do. Why did they do that? Burn my car up?”

Everyone in his quiet Northland neighborhood is shocked by the incident.

“He just moseyed and took his time about doing everything he was doing,” said neighbor Adam Scott, who watched the surveillance video. “Then, he didn't really hurry when he started the fire. It just stunned me.”

The arsonist took a bag of trash from the owner’s backyard and set it on the hood. Then, slowly, he placed pieces of newspaper around the hood. Before lighting the fire, he looked directly into the security camera.

“It’s unbelievable,” the owner said.

He reported the crime to police, who are still looking for the suspect.

In the meantime, neighbors said they are on guard.

"I don't have cameras, but I have security lights and I have a big gun,” Scott said.
