Congressman Jerry Moran pressed the head of the Department of Veteran Affairs, Secretary Robert McDonald, for answers Wednesday on the allegations of sex abuse that happened inside the Eastern Kansas VA Hospital in Leavenworth.

A veteran who recently attended Moran’s town hall meeting in Kansas watched the clip with 41 Action News Reporter Lexi Sutter.

He was not satisfied with McDonald’s response.

“Why does the number one guy from the VA not have the same information as our Senator has?” the veteran commented.

McDonald told Moran they needed to compare their data, because what the secretary has is different.

The biggest question from Moran and other veterans is how Mark Wisner was hired by the VA in the first place.

A 41 Action News investigation uncovered he came to the hospital with a previous conviction, which he marked on a state document.

In court documents from June, Wisner admitted to committing a crime of sexual nature to VA investigators.

The victim 41 Action News spoke with feels his pain and suffering could have been avoided.

“Why was he hired to give us treatment and the way he did things? You know, it’s hard to see this.”

Wisner is expected back in Leavenworth County Court on Friday, Sept. 16 for his criminal charges.

He’s facing 12 separate lawsuits in federal court.
