Teen's family speaks out after near-drowning

UPDATE Dec. 22, | The family of a teenage boy involved in a near-drowning accident last week is speaking out publicly about his condition.

According to the family, 15-year-old Nigel is still in critical condition. 

ORIGINAL STORY| 

A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition after a near-drowning at Blue Valley High School on Friday afternoon. 

Officials say the incident happened around 3:30 p.m during swim team practice.

Team members told authorities a freshman student showed signs of distress and was pulled from the water. 

"When he left he was talking and moving his arms," said schools spokeswoman Kristi McNerlin. "That's the result of the fact that are swim coach administered the CPR. They're trained. He was able to act quickly." 

The teen was transported to the hospital and is in serious condition, officials said. 

The identity of the teen has not been released.
