Odessa man takes police on chase, shoots at officers with toddler in car

Two people are in custody after shots were fired at officers during a police chase on the east side of the metro. 

According to authorities, the chase started around 3 a.m. Friday morning in Blue Springs near I-70 and Dairy Parkway. 

Police say Tyler Hale, 26, of Odessa, fired several gunshots at Higginsville police and Lafayette County deputies. 

The chase ended near 23rd and Harvard in Independence, where Hale tried to flee on foot. He was apprehended a short distance away. 

The driver and deputy sustained minor injuries during the apprehension, and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.  Both are expected to make full recoveries.

One suspect and an infant were also inside the vehicle. The suspect was arrested and the infant was placed into protective custody. 

The investigation is ongoing.
