KANSAS CITY, Mo. --

Two people were shot after a reported robbery and vehicle pursuit in east Kansas City Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the victim called 911 to report he had been robbed at Fast Stop on Eastwood Trafficway and I435. He told police he was chasing the suspect in his vehicle going north on I-435.

Police say they told the victim to stop pursuing the suspect, but he refused.

The pursuit brought them to the area of 43rd and Laurel near a Denny's, where police were told a crash happened and a shooting. Witnesses saw a black male running across the highway from the crash site.

Independence police officers responded to help look for the black male. Officers later found him inside a nearby Taco Bell and took him into custody.

Police say two people were shot in this incident. Both have non-life threatening injuries.

No other information is immediately available as detectives continue their investigation.
