In seven years the Big Slick has raised about $3.25 million for Children's Mercy Hospital, but for the hometown heroes behind it, the sweetest -- and most comedic -- moments may happen while visiting the kids at Children's Mercy.

"I love coming back to Kansas City anyway, but with this it feels like a big bear hug," said Eric Stonestreet, actor and host of the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend.

He, Paul Rudd, Jason Sudeikis and David Koechner all serve as hosts in what Rob Riggle founded as a poker tournament fundraiser.

"You start something and hope it grows," explained Riggle.

They all laughed and said sometimes the kids are confused when they come into their rooms.

"'40-Year-Old Virgin,' they're three. They haven't seen that," joked Rudd.

When asked about the most impactful moments, Riggle said it's both the kids who make it through their treatments and the ones who don't.

"That really sticks with you," said Riggle.

Rudd said he feels like he gets to know the kids through talking with their parents, because they want them to know everything about their child and how extraordinary they are.

Sudeikis admitted to throwing a few games of Connect Four during his time there.

A spokesperson for the hospital said the world gets to know them for what they do as actors and comedians, but the kids get to know them for who they are.

"Last year, I met a really lovely girl here who basically got an iPad and used 'Modern Family' to clock her chemo," said Stonestreet. "You have those sorts of stories. Somebody says you're getting me through these moments, and I can remember every one of the episodes because I watched so many per treatment."

Stonestreet continued to say it's a reminder of why their jobs are important, to make people laugh and ease whatever struggles are in their lives.

There are three main charity events this weekend including an auction and bowling tournament. All the events are sold out except the celebrity softball game before Royals game. That starts Friday at 5 p.m. ahead of the Royals game.
