A hoverboard charging in the basement reportedly caused a Lee's Summit house fire early Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called to the 2400 block of NE Willow Creek Lane shortly before 4:00 a.m.

Smoke alarms woke the family, who discovered smoke coming from the basement. They tried to put the fire out themselves but were unsuccessful and had to evacuate the house.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and a small fire in the basement that was quickly extinguished.

One resident was treated and released at the scene.

Fire investigators determined a hoverboard charging in the finished basement was the cause of the fire, and after smoke was eliminated, residents were allowed to reoccupy the home.
