UPDATE: George R. Turrentine, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., faces three charges in connection to the Sunday evening shooting of his one-year-old daughter.

Turrentine is charged with two felonies -- first degree endangering the welfare of a child and armed criminal action. He is also charged with a misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

According to a release sent out by the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, Turrentine claims he was cleaning a 9 mm handgun when the gun went off and a bullet went through his arm and into his daughter.

The child sustained injuries to her pelvis and spine. She remains in critical but stable condition.

Police seized the handgun, an AR-15 rifle and a substance believed to be marijuana from Turrentine's home, according to the release.

Police are investigating after a one-year-old child was brought to a local hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to KCPD spokesperson Stacey Graves, the child is a 1-year-old girl and is listed in critical condition.

She was brought to a local hospital by her father, who also had a gunshot wound. The father is listed in stable condition.

Police on scene at the hospital were surrounding a white SUV before it was towed away.

This is the third child in KCMO and KCK in less than two weeks to have been shot. The two other children died.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker called Sunday night's shooting infuriating on Twitter.

An investigation into the incident continues.

This is a developing story and updates will be made available as new details are released.
