The City of De Soto will consider an agreement to terminate its city manager on Thursday.

The De Soto City Council voted in favor 3-2 on Jan. 21 to provide City Manager Cynthia Wagner a written notice of intent to terminate her contract.

A hearing will be held during an executive session at the council's Feb. 4 meeting.

During the Jan. 21 meeting, De Soto Mayor Tim Maniez cast the tiebreaking vote.

Council President Rick Walker and councilmember Lori Murdock voted against the measure, while councilmembers Danny Lane and Bill McDaniel voted in favor of the written notice of termination.

"I don't agree with this," Murdock said at the Jan. 21 meeting. "I imagine there will be a lot of employees who don't agree with it."

Lane said he believes it is the right direction for the city to go in.

Councilmember Ron McDaniel was absent from the Jan. 21 meeting.

Wagner, before arriving in De Soto in June 2014, served as the assistant city manager for Lawrence, Kan. She also served a similar position in Liberty, Mo., and was the budget manager for Overland Park, Kan.

As part of a termination agreement, the city would have to pay Wagner $60,047.01 as part of a six-month severance package.

Thursday's meeting is expected to start at 7 p.m.
