Faith community in Kansas City steps up to help flood victims in Texas, Louisiana

The faith community in Kansas City is coming to the rescue of flood victims, sending food, clothing and some volunteers.

The Missouri Southern Baptist Convention is sending volunteers and three vans — one to cook meals, another to allow flood victims to take showers and one with laundry machines.

The Jewish Community Federation of Greater Kansas City changed the picture on its homepage showing flooded streets in Houston. They also added a link for donations. In the first two hours, they raised $2,000.

The Catholic Diocese of Greater Kansas City/St. Joseph is also sending money. For the next two weeks, the Diocese is asking every parish to have a special offering for flood-victims. Catholic Charities in Houston and Louisiana will use the money to provide clothing and shelter.

The Muslim community in Kansas City is collecting blankets and clothes to send to the Islamic Relief USA for distribution in flood ravaged areas.
