A father of a girl who was raped by her teacher has filed an indictment against the North Kansas City School District. According to court documents, Joel Martin accuses the district of being negligent in their hiring and supervision of Samuel Waltemath.

Waltemath, a former North Kansas City Schools teacher, was charged with first-degree rape and child molestation in 2015.

Court documents say the school district received reports that Waltemath was being inappropriate with underage girls in December 2014, but it wasn’t until Feb. 2015 that the school district told Waltmath his teaching contract would not be renewed.

But he continued to teach and in April 2015 he began to engage in social media contact with Martin’s 13-year-old daughter.

On May 1, 2015 Waltemath was suspended from his teaching position, but court documents allege the school did not tell parents or students why.

In May 2015, while he was still employed as a teacher, Waltemath sexually assaulted and raped Martin's daughter.

On December 8, Waltemath was sentenced to 7 years in prison for the sex crimes.
