KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Firefighters in Kansas City put out an early morning fire at a vacant motel. Smoke and flames were shooting out of the office building at the old Four Acre Motel at 8220 Hickman Mills Drive at about 5 a.m.

A fire investigator responded to the scene to determine what caused the fire. The battalion chief in charge said the property did not have active electrical or utility hookups, so it’s unlikely an electrical issue started the fire.

The battalion chief added no one was injured in the fire. Flames damaged only the office building, not the old motel units.

Firefighters climbed on the roof of the building to push back the flames and cut off parts of the roof. The chief said the ice and snow made the task more challenging.
