On Tuesday, police continued to search for clues to a shooting that happened on I-35 on Monday night near Quality Hill.

According to police, a woman was hit in the arm by a bullet as she drove northbound under the 12th St. overpass on I-35 around 9 p.m.

Investigators said the woman continued driving and pulled over near the intersection of 6th Street & Broadway Blvd. before being helped by multiple people.

Tami Daniel told 41 Action News she was heading home from Halloween festivities when she pulled up to the scene.

"I saw the girl standing out in the middle of the road waving with blood running down her shirt," she explained. "I heard her screaming. My first thought was it was a Halloween prank."

Daniel said she was a short distance behind the woman when the shooting occurred, and after showing up to help, the victim continued screaming.

"She kept saying over and over again that she was running errands," said Daniel.

As several Good Samaritans continued to help out at the scene, they discovered a 2-year-old in a car seat inside.

"I went to undo the latch. I was shaking and pretty wound up," explained Daniel. "I went to open the second latch and pulled her out. She never made a sound. She was as good as gold."

Daniel and other helpers stayed at the scene until police and first responders showed up to assist.

The crime occurred near the quiet Quality Hill neighborhood, home to several apartment areas and families.

Downtown Neighborhood Association President Jared Campbell said the crime was tough to believe.

"This is the first I've ever heard of any type of shooting from a bridge or a shooting on a highway," he said.

After living downtown for 14 years, Campbell said Monday's shooting came as a shock.

"We very rarely hear of any serious crime like this," he explained. "When you have that and you hear about a shooting like this, it really makes you pause."

With the woman continuing to recover after being shot and her young child now home safely, Daniel said she was glad she helped out.

"You got to go with your gut. You got to do what needs to be done," she explained. "I'm so glad I went with my gut. I'm so glad we didn't drive away. I'm so glad multiple people did not drive away."

On Tuesday, investigators said they were continuing to interview the female victim about details of the shooting.

As of Tuesday evening, police had not released a description of a possible suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 1-816-474-TIPS.
