Want a $1 home? Here's what you need to know

Imagine being able to purchase a house for only $1. In Kansas City, Missouri, it’s possible.

Land Bank of Kansas City, Missouri is selling more than 100 homes for this low price.

"Typically we never go into a house expecting less than 30 thousand but we do, lot's of the time we are doing over the top remodels on a job like this you could go in there and do it for significantly less," said Mark Jones. He has been flipping homes for 16 homes. 

If you are looking for a home to fix up, here are some things you should know first:

Properties are sold as is

Many of the homes or lots offered by Land Bank are not up to city code. The properties are sold to buyers as is.

Buyer must bring property to livable standards

Most of the dollar homes are considered unlivable. The buyer must repair and building and have the certificate of Dangerous Building removed.

Apply and have a plan

According to their website, properties sold or leased through the Land Bank are to make the community better. When a person applies, they must give a description of his or her intended use and plans for repairing.

Buyer must go through a background check

People with illegal drug, prostitution convictions and registered sex offenders will not be allowed to purchase a property.  Owners of other property in the city who have delinquent taxes or code violations are not eligible.

An open house will be held on March 9 from 1-3 p.m. and 3:30-6 p.m. on 4900 Swope Parkway on the second floor.
