The Independence School District is hitting a milestone on Saturday. It's 150 years old.

People commemorated the day by lining up the historical town square for a parade. There were marching bands and students from all over the school district. Afterward, people were invited to the grand opening of "All Things Independence" - a student-run business on Main Street.

"There's nowhere else where you can get the same real world experience running a business without actually doing it yourself. So to have this in school, to get this experience before you even leave high school is just incredible," said Shelby Fordham, store manager.

Students will run the marketing, ordering and retail space.

"In the back, they will have their own business where they will actually make t-shirts, so if your business needs t-shirts, ISD is taking orders," said Dr. Dale Herl, superintendent of Independence School District.
