A new terminal at KCI has been a topic that was put on halt because city leaders showed that many residents were actually opposed to the idea.

On Thursday afternoon, Rotary 13 held an event where Councilwoman Jolie Justus talked about the issue.

Justus said the city is on pause when it comes to the new terminal, but the topic is not off the table.

She mentioned right now the council is focusing on how to better inform the public about this possible new addition.

"Once we get past April, and if we as a city decide we're going to go ahead and pass the general obligation bond and start working on those other issues, then we can start to talk again on how we can move this idea forward," Justus said. "But until then, know this, we have complete unanimity. Everyone of the airlines that services Kansas City says that they want a new terminal and they want to pay for it."

She said the general obligation bond is something the city manager and mayor are looking to put before voters next April; a bond that focuses on the basic infrastructure needs.

At the event, Justus also touched on what the prices would look like if a terminal is added.

"We are looking at an increase of about $2.10 per passenger as far as the passenger fee is concerned," Justus said. "You will also see an increase in parking prices, which you will see regardless of whether or not we build a new terminal, so we will have to increase our parking prices, regardless of what we do. That's what you're going to see."

Justus says this topic will be discussed more in depth next Spring.
