It’s been 30 days since Turreze Harris was shot and killed near 71st and Cleveland, and his family is still waiting for answers and justice.

“We are grieving. Someone needs to come up and speak out,” said Latoya White, one of Harris' cousins.

On June 19, Kansas City police found the 37-year-old father of four shot, lying in a driveway. Emergency crews took him to the hospital where he later died.

A month later, police still have not named any suspects or released a motive for the shooting.

The Harris’ family told 41 Action News they believe there are no leads because no one is coming forward with information.

“I refuse to continue to let it go,” said Anita Stanley, another of Harris’ cousins. “We need you all to speak out and let us know.”

Wednesday night, with flyers in hand, they canvassed the neighborhood and knocked on doors with members of the AdHoc Group Against Crime, a local non-profit focused on reducing violence and solving area crimes.

“Whether it’s 30 days or 31 days tomorrow, it’s a day too late,” said Damon Daniel, the group’s president.

According to AdHoc, 49 percent of homicides this year in Kansas City remain unsolved.

Time is of the essence with these sorts of cases, so the group pushes to do these types of canvasses with victims’ families. The hope is that the community will provide tips, anonymous or otherwise, that will help detectives solve these crimes.

Anyone with information on Harris’ murder is asked to call police directly, or call through the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
