KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Large event planners and festival producers in Kansas City evaluate the Las Vegas massacre for possible changes in protocol.

Keli O'Neill Wenzell, with O'Neill Marketing and Event Management, is always thinking ahead when it comes to producing some of Kansas City's most popular outdoor festivals like Boulevardia, Celebration at the Station and the KC Irish Fest.

"To wake up yesterday and watch what happened is any festival producer's worst nightmare," said O'Neil Wenzell.

On Sunday night more than 22,000 festival goers ran for their lives in Las Vegas after a gunman opened fire from the 32nd floor of a hotel.

"Anything that happens that unfortunate on a national or international scale, those things are addressed at a local level," said Vaughn Baker, president of Strategoes International.

Strategoes International teaches clients how to reduce fear and respond to an active shooter.

"We talk about normalcy bias. We're biased to the normal each and every day. So when the abnormal happens we have difficulty accepting the crisis, that delays the response." said Baker

Baker encourages his clients to always know where the closest exit is in any situation. He also teaches a three step the assessment: look out, get out, take out.
