The Kansas City Fire Department was called to the scene of a house fire on Bellfontaine Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The man living in the home, Byron Hill, escaped with his life by racing through his home and jumping out the back window.

"I'm just thankful I'm able to be here and do this interview," said Hill.

Hill believes the fire was intentionally set. He thinks it's revenge because his adult daughter had some stolen items in his home. Hill became aware of this at the hospital Thursday morning.

Hill also said there were some gasoline cans on the front porch that may have contributed to the fire.

No word yet on a cause from fire investigators.
