Kris Kobach endorses Donald Trump for president

Posted at 1:46 PM, Feb 29, 2016

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach announced Monday that he is endorsing Donald Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.

In a press release, Kobach said he believes Trump is the best candidate for his hard line stances on immigration and national security.

"Now, more than ever, America needs Mr. Trump's aggressive approach to the problem of illegal immigration," said Kobach, who has spent much of his own political career advancing measures to expel undocumented immigrants and penalize businesses that hire them. "Our porous borders constitute a huge national security threat, and our refugee system has been abused by terrorists in the past and is likely to be abused by ISIS terrorists today."

The press release also stated that Kobach supports Trump's proposition that the PATRIOT Act be used to compel the Mexican government to pay for a border wall meant to limit the passage of undocumented immigrants.

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback endorsed Trump's rival, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, earlier this month.
