A Hyde Park man was beaten and robbed by a group of people outside his home early Saturday morning.

“I didn't notice them until I got out of the car,” said Justin Richardson, the victim.

Richardson had just gotten home around 3 a.m. after finishing up at work in the Country Club Plaza area.

“I was going in the backseat to grab my bag, and before I knew it about 6 to 8 gentlemen, who looked young, walked past me and said, 'How's it going?'” said Richardson.

He said the young men asked what time it was -- then Richardson woke up with bruised ribs and a bloody face.

“My phone was gone, my wallet was gone and my car was gone," said Richardson.

KCPD is looking for a 2005 black Toyota RAV4 with Missouri plate number CA6-SOR. If you see it, call authorities immediately.

Around the time of the incident, a neighbor’s surveillance video shows a group of people walking towards Richardson’s home. It's unclear if those were the same people who attacked him.

“He’s never been in a fight or anything like that,” said Richardson’s wife, Stephanie. “I don't want it to happen to anyone else."

The thieves seem to have used his credit card at a nearby gas station.

If you have any information about this crime, the suspects or saw anything suspicious in the area that night, you are encouraged to call local police or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 (TIPS).
