Officers had the area surrounding a deadly shooting blocked off Tuesday morning at the Timber Lakes apartments off Red Bridge Road in southeast Kansas City.
The initial shooting call came in around 5:45 a.m. in the 11000 block of Montgall Avenue.
The man who was killed was allegedly trying to rob two other people and had a gun, according to police.
The robbery victims said the man tried to take their things and force them into their home. That's when one of them pulled out their own gun and shot him.
He tried to get away but collapsed, and police found him dead outside the apartment.
Police had the entrance to the Timber Lakes apartment complex blocked off to investigate the incident.
This is the 79th homicide in Kansas City this year.
