About 11:30 Sunday morning a man standing outside City Hall, and across from the Police Station fired a gun into the air.
A KC Police Detective saw the man, and when other officers arrived, the man put the gun down and surrendered without incident.
He told officers he was hearing voices, and his family and friends wouldn't or couldn't help him, so he decided a way to get help is to fire a gun in the air.
The man was only described as a black man wearing a gray sweatshirt.
Police say he will be issued a summons for discharging a firearm, and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
