It's a notification no airline passenger wants to see - canceled flight.

"I was really nervous, but luckily that wasn't my flight - mine is earlier," said Andrea Dahl.

But luck was on the side of Dahl and her mom as their flight from Kansas City to Pittsburgh was scheduled to leave on time, though a later flight to the same destination was already canceled.

"I just really hope our flight is on time and doesn't end up getting canceled like a lot of the other ones," she said.

While the snowfall in Kansas City was an inconvenience at most, the snowstorms in the northeast United States brought air travel to a standstill.

FlyKCI.com tracks flight arrivals and departures.

"If most of the flights today are canceled, then they are playing catch-up over the next few days," said Joe McBride, the spokesman for the Kansas City International Airport. "It's especially true if it is a heavy travel time. Like right now with spring break, so there are not as many seats available to get those distressed passengers on future flights."

Airlines canceled more than 8,000 flights between Sunday morning and Tuesday afternoon. And while the cancellations aren't impacting most of the flight coming into and leaving out of KCI, the airport recommends you check the flight schedule before you head to the airport.

The best ways to do that are to go to FlyKCI.com, where you can monitor all flight arrivals and departures, or by checking the website of the specific airline you will be flying.
