Olathe man dies after disturbance, struggle with officers

A 34-year-old Olathe man died early Saturday morning after struggling with officers trying to take him into custody after a disturbance.

Just after 4:00 Saturday morning officers responded to the 14500 block of West 138th Place to investigate a report of an armed disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the agitated man who began to threaten officers with a blunt object. A struggle ensued, and the man suffered a medical emergency.

Officers tried to resuscitate the man until medical units arrived. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

The officers are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation by the Johnson County Multi-Jurisdictional Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team.

The identity of the man has not yet been released.
