Sunday afternoon several detectives canvassed the area along College Avenue and 57th Street, trying to piece together who could have shot and killed two little boys.

Police say the two boys were just 8 and 9 years old, and that a gunman is still on the loose.

It brought back painful memories for Latonya Johnson, whose cousin was killed in the neighborhood just three years ago.

“Quite naturally it took me back to three years ago when they were on this block for my cousin, yeah it's really heartbreaking," said Johnson.

Latonya Johnson’s cousin, DeOn Johnson, was shot and killed with another man during a block party three years ago. Both men were killed just yards away from where two children were shot and killed on Saturday. Johnson knows the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence.

"I couldn't imagine losing two babies, I know that I am feeling really really, I was really depressed yesterday like I couldn't even move around depressed just know that I see these kids play for the last three four years that they have been living there and two of them are gone now," said Johnson.

No one was ever arrested for her cousin’s death. She did have a message for family members of the two boys as police continue to look for answers.

"What I would say to them is just to embrace all the love and support that they will have and just continue to pray, it's hard, it's hard," said Johnson.
