One of the participants in the Rock the Parkway half marathon has died, according to a statement from the event's sponsor Burns & McDonnell.
Brandon Russell collapsed after completing the race on Saturday and later passed away, officials said.
Burns & McDonnell expressed its condolences in a statement.
"We are sad to share that a runner who collapsed at Rock the Parkway this morning has passed away. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends."
A GoFundMe account has been set up to create an annual race in his honor. Over a day, more than $25,000 was raised from a goal of $10,000.
