The KC Metro Squad is looking for a person of interest in conjunction with the murder of 44-year-old Monica Lee, who was found dead Tuesday in her Flint Street apartment.

According to a news release from the Shawnee Police Department, Gregory Wright II is considered a person of interest. Police said Wright may have been living with Lee in her apartment.

"We think he was just a roommate to her, and maybe they were friends in the past and he came back to stay for a short time,” said Major Dan Tennis of the Shawnee Police Department. “But if we could just talk to him, we could maybe answer that question.”

Officers were called to the 7500 block of Flint Street Tuesday on a welfare check call. During the preliminary investigation, they discovered Lee’s body.

Lee's daughter said she didn't respond to texts on Mother's Day, and that was what made her call police.

Investigators stressed Wednesday that one phone call from a knowledgeable person could make all the difference in helping them find the answers they need.

"We're trying to timeline it out to where we know the last person that talked to her for sure," Tennis said. "But it's difficult with text messages. Were they received and read and not responded to? Or they never get read? So those are things were looking at right now."

Officials say that Lee's gray 2004 Honda Civic was also missing when they arrived at the home. It has a Kansas license plate that reads 345-EYD and a bumper sticker with a distinctive slogan: "Pissing the world off, one person at a time."

Detectives ask anyone with information to call the Metro Squad at 913-742-6090, the Shawnee Police Department at 913-631-2150 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
