At least 16 small businesses and residences were vandalized overnight in what Overland Park police think was a drive-by.

The sun came up in downtown Overland Park to shattered and cracked windows.

The Other Place Bar and Pizzeria has plywood across its storefront. It'll cost The Other Place around $1,000 to fix.

Police found BB pellets in the debris and lodged in glass.

OPPD spokesperson John Lacy says they think the suspect(s) drove down 80th and Santa Fe streets shooting a BB gun at random. They targeted homes west of downtown as well.

The managers at The Other Place are disappointed their neighbors are dealing with the same thing.

"They're doing a lot of renovations down here. Downtown Overland Park is trying really hard to get the area back to a prosperous area. For something like this to happen, it's very frustrating," Manager Brian White said. "These are all small business owners down here. Something like this is an inconvenience and an extra cost the we don't need."

At The Diva Salon, a board covered up the area where a front window normally stands.

The window was shot out on Wednesday morning, and repairs are expected to be costly.

"A couple thousand dollars for the damage I'm estimating," explained Audra Trites, who has worked at the salon for three weeks. "It scratched the floor up. The trim in the window was damaged so they had to pull that out."

With so many locally owned small businesses seeing damage, Trites said the crime would likely have a big impact on them.

"It's a lot of cost to a small business owner when things like this happen," she said. "That adds up fast."

Further down Santa Fe Drive, the Culinary Center had a window shattered in the shooting.

With the business being downtown for the last ten years, manager Libby Hawkins said she was concerned about the crime.

"It's upsetting to think that people are angry or for whatever reason it was just a joy ride," she explained. "I'm kind of disappointed that our little peaceful village was disturbed with violence like that."

The damage to the businesses is in the thousands of dollars - felony status.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white Ford Ranger extended cab, missing the front hood. It appears to have silver bed rails along the top, and a possible black cover.

Anyone who has information or video should call police.

With the suspect still on the loose, Hawkins hopes police can find whoever is responsible soon.

"I hope we track this person down," she said. "I hope the cameras will work and we can find who they are."
