As you turn the corner on a residential street in Lee's Summit, you will see a lot of signs. Though they are not persuading you to vote or trying to sell you something, they are instead, providing words of encouragement.
It's a project started by Jennifer Hunsinger, who felt the world needed a little bit of cheer.

"There so much in the news. When you turn it on, there is racial divide, there is political divide. So much division in our country right now, more than I've seen in my lifetime, I just thought we gotta do something," said Hunsinger.

So, she brought an idea to her neighbor across the street, Erin Bell.

Bell explained, "She just had this vision. She has such a big heart, I wanted to support her and this vision absolutely."

That vision involved 28 homemade signs, each saying something different and unique, such as:

  • "Today is the day!"
  • "Just love."
  • "Hug it out."
  • "Happiness is you."
  • "Be a Fruit Loop in a bowl full of Cheerios."

It took a number of hours to gather the supplies, create the signs and hang them along their street.

According to Bell, it was "a labor of love, but we did it!"

They call it, "Project Happiness." To the surprise of the organizers, these small signs are making a big difference. As they were hanging up signs earlier this week, a three-time cancer survivor stopped them to say that the signs had brought her so much joy.

"I think in this world today, we need to start small. If you can do one nice thing for someone everyday and if that one person did something nice for someone else the world would probably be a much better place to live in," said Hunsinger.

"Project Happiness," is proving that even the smallest act of kindness can go a long way.
