UPDATE: 8:00 A.M. 9/16/2017:  Police say it was an apparent murder/suicide.

Alice Humphrey, 37, was reportedly killed by 35 year-old Bobby Harris.

The investigation continues, and anyone with any information is encouraged to call police.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are investigating after two people were found dead inside a home Thursday morning.

A man and a woman were found in a house in the 4500 block of South Benton.

At this time, police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Police on the scene said there was a teen boy also inside the home. He is not a suspect and is related to at least one of the victims. The teenager is now with family members.

Investigators do not have a cause of death at this time.

Police on the scene are waiting for a search warrant to go inside the home. Then the medical examiner can determine a cause of death.

This is at least the 108th homicide this year. That is already double the number of murders for the whole year of 2014.

Last year at this time there were 24 fewer murders.

One community activist who lives in the neighborhood attributes the spike in crime to gun accessibility and to Missouri loosening conceal and carry laws.

"I know that somebody said it was OK for anybody to carry a gun. You know the felons - a lot of these guys know they aren't supposed to carry a gun. But hell, their hand is being forced. Some of these guys feel like they have to carry a gun because somebody else got one," explained Pat Clarke.

Police said they are aware of the problem and are trying to address it.

"We are trying to attack the violent crime problem from several different angles. It's going to take the community to come forward to let us know if conflict is brewing or provide information on homicides they may be aware of," said Stacey Graves, spokeswoman for KCPD.

Mike Porter lives in the neighborhood. He hopes change will come soon. He said he hears gunfire every night.

"I could set my clock by the gunfire. I mean 11 o'clock you definitely gonna hear guns going off. It's guaranteed," said Porter.

At this time, officers are not looking for any suspects.
