KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Three people died and one other person was critically injured after a van went straight through a T-stop in KCK, flipping directly into the path of an oncoming train.

Police responding to the scene found two men dead and had first responders take a man and a woman, both critically injured, to a nearby hospital. The woman later died, and the man remained in the hospital as of Monday, Dec. 11.

KCK police identified the victims as Steven Gelhart, 45, Joe Bosquez, 29, and Destiny Gregory, 31.

The silver van was going north on S. 14th Street police said before it crossed Metropolitan Avenue and landed upside down on the train tracks north of the road.

"The vehicle had gone off the road and landed on the train tracks in that same area, about 14th and Metropolitan," said Officer Jonathan Westbrook with KCKPD. "The vehicle was struck by an oncoming train."

Rail service was stopped as investigators searched for answers, but by early Friday morning the scene was cleared and rail service was back up and running.

"The next steps include just mapping the area, making sure that the individuals weren't intoxicated, if they were, take those appropriate steps," said Westbrook.
