Digital marketing company VML is following this year's Cyber Monday shopping trends. A new app called Honey and interest in shopping at small, local businesses are new this year.

Emily Dore, VML Group Planning Director, said her advice is to make a list of what items you want to purchase.

"Also try to purchase as many items as you can from the same retailer so you can consolidate your shipping costs," said Dore.

She did a quick search online for the coveted Hatchimals toy. It was sold out on the Hatchimals website and on most department store sites.

You can find them for sale on Ebay, but you'll have to pay. Hatchimals originally sold for about $50 in department stores. On Ebay, they range in price from $100 to more than $200.

For items that are not in high demand, you may find additional savings by using a new app called Honey. It essentially searches the web for coupons that apply to the item the customer is buying.

"It's fast and easy to use, and it's one of my new favorite apps, " said Dore.

VML's Insights expert, Danny Schumann, noticed a new trend that could help the local economy.

"We're seeing that more people are interested in shopping locally," explained Schumann. "Small businesses have also slashed prices, but they don't have the advertising budgets to promote it."

He encouraged Cyber Monday shoppers to search for small businesses online and not just the big box stores.
