Kansas City is doing its part to help those affected by the floods across Missouri.

Two people are dead and many roads are closed throughout the state due to the floods. Gov. Eric Greitens says it is likely to get worse as river crests reach historic highs.

Heart to Heart International is sending a three worker crew and a truck loaded with supplies to Neosho, Missouri.

Heart to Heart International provides disaster relief to people all over the world and right here in the Kansas City metro. The organization is based out of Lenexa, Kansas.

Jim Mitchum is the CEO of Heart to Heart.

"The magnitude of this flood is so obvious. We know that people are being displaced. We know that there are people who are going to need help and that's what we do." said Mitchum. "Once there, we will connect with the local providers so that we can distribute these products successfully."

Widespread flooding across southern Missouri is still a threat. Flood warnings are still in place for more than two-thirds of the state.

Greitens declared a state of emergency.

"The rain may have stopped in your area, floods and danger remain. 80 percent of casualties in situations like this come from people interacting with rushing water," said Grietens.

The truck that went out on Sunday afternoon will help determine the need. More Heart to Heart International trucks could leave Monday.

The American Red Cross also plans to send volunteers to the affected area Monday morning.
