When tens of thousands of people come to town for the Big XII tournament, it's no secret parking can be a pain. 41 Action News talked to Visit KC to get you tips on how to make your travel plans so you spend less time in the car and more time near the court.

Check the map

Visit KC created this map of all the available parking downtown.

Know the closures

Several streets and some entire blocks downtown are closed for the duration of the tournament. You can see a full list here.

Pay in advance

Scout out a parking spot and pay before you go online to avoid circling the area in your car, wasting precious minutes.

Consider the KC Streetcar.

Parking at Union Station or River Market and riding the streetcar is encouraged. They run every 12-18 minutes during off peak times so allow extra time with so much activity downtown. If you're interested, here are the hours.

Leave in plenty of time

Derek Klaus, Senior Communications Manager for VisitKC, said, "It's a really busy time downtown so we encourage everyone to take a little more extra time than they normally would just so you can get where you need to be safely and securely. It's peace of mind on game day so you can get down there and focus and have a good time."
