The Department of Justice has reverses a policy that protects transgender people from discrimination in the workplace, BuzzFeed reports.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a directive on Wednesday that reverses an Obama-era guidance that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act applied to transgender people and protected them from discrimination in the workplace.

“Although federal law, including Title VII, provides various protections to transgender individuals, Title VII does not prohibit discrimination based on gender identity per se,” Sessions wrote, according BuzzFeed. “This is a conclusion of law, not policy. As a law enforcement agency, the Department of Justice must interpret Title VII as written by Congress."

More on this as it develops.
